Blog Income Report October 2017: We Made $74,049.44 Working From Home
Hey, blogger folks! Welcome to our blog income report October 2017 where we give you the low-down on how we make money blogging every month!
“WHAT?!” – Lil Jon, 2006
Alright, this has to be some sort of joke…
I (Alex) swear every month we think the jig is up and that the fun times of blogging are going to come to an end.
Somehow, someway, last month was our best month yet.
Not just financially either…
We met some new badass blogger friends at FinCon, moved into a new place, and a bunch of other cool things I will share below.
Just so you know, these income reports are where we share how we made money online last month and the lessons we learned.
If you’re new here, make sure to read this introductory section on why we do income reports.
If you’ve already read this, go ahead and skip down to the “Show Me the Money” section!
Why We Publish Income Reports:
It’s a little weird publishing our income reports for all of our friends, family, and loved ones to see, but that’s the tradeoff that we accept for the transparency that it provides to our audience.
We never publish to brag – only to show our followers and readers just what is possible with a small blog, some hard work, and a lot of determination!
Lauren (my girlfriend and business partner) and I own a successful health and wellness blog at Avocadu.com. It is from the successes and failures of this blog that we teach at Create and Go.
We are teaching strategies that work in a completely different niche, and we hope this will make it a little more applicable to your specific niche and blog.
There are a lot of ‘experts’ out there that are making money online by teaching others how to make money online. Basically, blogging about blogging.
While many of these folks are VERY successful (and good at what they do), it makes their strategies a little less relatable and harder to apply sometimes if you are in a completely different niche.
We took Avocadu to earning $20,000/month and beyond before we started Create and Go. Now that we have found quite a bit of success with Create and Go as well, we have also recently begun adding in some of our money stats from this blog into our income reports as well.
We hope that the honesty and transparency that we provide through our successes and failures with our health and wellness blog helps you on your blogging journey as well!
Start a Successful Blog Today:
If you are interested in starting a successful blog for yourself, we made an awesomesauce tutorial on how to start a profitable blog, starting at just $2.75 per month (this low price is only through our referral link).
In addition to that, you also get a free website domain ($15 value) through our Bluehost link if you purchase.
Starting a blog the right way has been one of the most important X-factors in how we made over $30,000 this month blogging. So click here to start a successful blog if you’re ready to get started!
Show Me the Money:
From our health and wellness blog, Avocadu.com: $16,473
From this website, Create and Go: $57,577
Total Revenues: $74,050
Our expenses vary from month to month, but we pay for a variety of software for hosting, email marketing, sales pages, and more, including:
- Bluehost (Blog hosting)
- ConvertKit (Email marketing)
- LeadPages (Email opt-in landing pages)
- Teachable (Sales pages + course hosting)
- ClickFunnels (Sales pages + eBook hosting)
- Tailwind (Pinterest scheduling and analytics)
- Social Media Warfare (Social icons and sharing)
Proof of Blogging Income (from Avocadu)
Update on Avocadu Money Stats
If you read our income reports every month, you will have noticed that Avocadu has begun its steady decline as we head towards the end of the year.
The health and wellness niche, like many other niches, is cyclical in nature.
Our biggest months of the year for traffic and sales are January – March and the lowest are October – December.
So, our revenues will likely continue to decline through the end of the year before they pick back up again majorly in January.
It’s something that we expect and prepare for every year!
Changes to this Blog Income Report
Normally, we discuss all of our blogging updates, changes, etc. that occurred over the past month.
This income report will be no different in that respect, but we did decide to income a lot of personal updates as well in this blogging report. We have built up a large following up to this point, and many of you have expressed wanting to see a little more insight into our personal lives.
That being said, if you’re just in it for the blogging updates, just scroll on down over the personal stuff and head into the section: “Updates from the Blogs.”
For the rest of you, keep reading…
Here’s what happened in our lives this month…
We got settled into a new apartment back in Texas.
In our last income report, after living in Portugal for a month, we talked about moving somewhere nearby friends as we grow our businesses. Four months of non-stop traveling made us crave a break to reconnect with our friends and have a place of our own again.
We got back from Portugal, drove to Austin, Texas, rented a U-haul, and moved all our possessions to a suburb outside of Dallas, Texas (near where I grew up).
Getting my stand-up desk out of storage was like releasing my dragon from captivity.
Lauren Mac got an Apple iMac computer too. (Get it, Lauren-Mac??… haha…ha…sigh…)
Now, we won’t stop traveling, this is the right decision for now so that we can lock down and focus on growth over the next 3 months.
You see, we’ve found that when we travel, we do just fine maintaining our business.
The problem is that we cannot actively GROW our businesses while we travel.
So, we still plan to travel, but we need more of a balance in our lives to both grow our businesses and enjoy the adventures of traveling.
We met some of our internet friends in real life, which was WAY cool:
Lauren and I don’t do outreach… like, ever. It’s just not our thing.
This will fly in the face of what many bloggers tell newbies, but in our first two years of blogging, this was the FIRST time we ever met anyone in the blogging world other than when I met Pat Flynn at Traffic and Conversion Summit earlier this year.
To be honest, meeting these folks at FinCon for a couple drinks changed our perspective completely… We knew almost instantly that this was a group in which we belonged.
You see, I’ve got amazing friends in Dallas who have known me for 10+ years. They are lifelong friends that I wouldn’t trade in for the world. But when it comes to work stuff and living out our dreams, we sometimes have a hard time connecting.
Lauren and I want to travel the world, live a crazy life, and work for ourselves. This is a very different from most of them are enjoy living the normal 9-5 life. Working for a boss, doing lawn work, etc.
There’s nothing wrong with that and I love them all the same, it’s just that’s hard to connect considering 1/3 of your life is spent on where you work! That’s why connecting with other crazy bloggers like ourselves meant so much to us…
Lauren and I probably had a few too many that night because we were having such a blast with these blogger folks #vodkaredbullhangover #imnotincollegeanymore
Michelle, Natalie, Tess, and everyone else we met were just rad people.
Crazy people chasing crazy dreams. Living in the moment. Giving zero effs about what the world thinks about them.
This experience is going to greatly impact how I view blogging and we will definitely be participating in a lot more conferences in the new year.
We Spent a Dope Amount of Time with Family and Old Friends
As stated before, the purpose of moving back was to both grow our business and reconnect with our old friends as well as make some new ones. Think we’re doing a great job so far.
Murder Mystery Party where I was Dr. Dijon. Ironically, Lauren’s character and mine had a lover’s tryst.
Updates from the Blogs
AMAZON Partnership is Now Official
In order to expand and grow Avocadu, we have realized that we need to start spreading our influence to Amazon FBA.
Our growth has been somewhat stagnant on Avocadu as we focus in more on Create and Go, and we just aren’t ready to create a new health or weight loss product in addition to the successful 21-Day Challenge and Yoga Fat Loss Bible plans that we already have.
We are instead creating new products that have a better chance of reaching new visitors on a new platform – a new direction of growth through with Amazon FBA.
November marks the first month of partnership with Beth, my older sister, and Avocadu.
She’s next to my old man on the far right.
Beth is a budding Amazon expert who’s already made her own line of products. Our success with our probiotics, Gut-14, has now led to a realization that this is how Avocadu will move forward and grow in 2018.
Here’s how this will work:
- Step #1. Beth will look for a product on Amazon that fits Avocadu’s brand.
- Step #2. Beth will contact distributors, we work together to create the product, and put it on Amazon under the Avocadu brand name.
- Step #3. Lauren and I will then market that product to our audience by creating sales-centered-content and running email launches designed to sell them AND get precious Amazon reviews.
- Step #4. As the product sells and get reviews from Avocadu’s traffic, it will hopefully over time move to the #1 position in Amazon. Once it’s there, the product will sell on their own just from the marketplace. It’s kind of automatic if you’re the #1 listing in Amazon.
- Step #5. Sales come in and all that needs to be done is fulfill new shipments and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Step #6. Rinse and repeat with other products.
In fact, our first product is on Amazon right now! We started with these two magnets:
We decided to start small with a few kitchen magnets. The idea is to build brand awareness with these because anyone who buys them will permanently have the name AVOCADU plastered on their fridge! 🙂
We’ve already sold our first few! Pretty exciting stuff! 😉
Create and Go’s Video Testimonials
Our sales pages were pretty barren with only the occasional text testimonial. The problem is that getting people to spend their time to record a video can be VERY difficult to do.
BUT it’s incredibly important. For those that don’t know…
Video testimonials are incredibly important to raising your overall conversion rate on your sales pages.
Sometimes they can 2x or even 3x a conversion rate if done properly.
So, this past month I was running around contacting our satisfied customers and getting various testimonials on Skype. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun to chat with our customers!
Here is one of them – a video testimonial that Mikala did for our Pro Blogger Bundle:
I decided to go with a more conversational interview than asking them to shoot the videos themselves. This seemed to work a lot better as far as getting people to spend their time to help me do this.
If you’re wondering, I recorded them on Skype and used a program called ecamm.
What’s Next For Us?
We Are Launching a New Course
*UPDATE: We have launched! Keep reading for more info!
As you may have noticed, our YouTube channel has been a bit quiet lately and our blog post frequency has been almost non-existent this past month.
When you don’t hear from us for a while, we are either traveling or intensely focused on a new project – product creation mode.
This time it was the latter.
We’ve run into a specific problem at Create and Go that we’ve been trying to address for a while now and solving that problem more important than putting out regular content.
Most of our readership at Create and Go are newbie bloggers.
The problem is what happens next.
Most of our readers have built a beautiful blog they love (with our without our help) and are wondering what course they should take next…
- Should they get our Pinterest Traffic Avalanche Course and start driving traffic to their blog?
- Or should they grab our Six-Figure Blogger Course and start monetizing their blog like a pro?
In fact, we get this kind of email quite often.
Lauren to show an email message
We accidentally put our audience in a sort of the chicken or the egg scenario.
You can’t make money blogging without traffic and driving traffic to your blog without knowing how to monetize won’t make you any money either.
So, should I focus on traffic or monetization first?
Well, the answer is that you really need to begin working on BOTH, because they both take time and effort to see real results.
We thought we had provided our readers with the right steps, but we realized that taking on Pinterest Traffic Avalanche and Six-Figure Blogger at once was TOUGH and not something new bloggers were prepared to do at that stage.
The solution: Help new bloggers learn how to begin driving traffic AND monetize their blog – at the same time.
Introducing our newest course with the simplest name in blogging existence:
Make Money Blogging for Beginners
The Solution for Taking Your Blog From $0 to $1,000/Month with Free Traffic, Affiliate Marketing, and Other Awesomesauce Strategies.
It is specifically designed for new blog owners to begin driving traffic and making their first bit of real income online. It tackles both of these problems – at the same damn time!
In it, Lauren and I teach all of the strategies that WE personally used to make our first $1,000/month with our health and wellness blog…
- How to drive free (organic) traffic from Google, Pinterest, and YouTube
- Make your first $1,000 per month with affiliate marketing
- Other monetization strategies so that you can diversify your income and choose what’s right for your blog (sponsored posts, ads, guest posting, etc.)
It gives our newbie bloggers a crystal clear next step in the blogging path.
We realized that we had missed a really important step in the process from starting a blog to taking it all the way to $10k, and we have modified our steps accordingly:
- Start Your Blog: Start a Profitable Blog, Step-by-Step Tutorial
- Build and Launch Your Blog: Launch Your Blog Course
- Make Your First $1,000/Month Blogging: Make Money Blogging for Beginners Course
- Create Your Own Digital Products and Services to Take Your Blog to Earning $10k/Month and More: Six-Figure Blogger Course
Another reason for creating this new course was that after receiving some feedback from other bloggers, we realized that our Six-Figure Blogger Course was really better suited for bloggers at the intermediate to advanced level.
Which make an abundance of common sense. We just didn’t realize it at the time that we created it.
The entire course is about building profitable eBooks and eCourses and teaching bloggers how to make high-converting sales pages.
These are wayyyyyyyyyy more advanced lessons than what a newbie blogger needs, but sometimes it’s hard to see from your own point of view. We just wanted to give our bloggers ALL the tools that they needed to achieve the level of success that we have.
Don’t try to walk before you can fun, folks!
As a newbie blogger, you need to focus on making your first $1,000/month with your blog as you learn how to drive traffic and begin building an audience.
Only once you have a solid footing on these concepts should you move on to the next stage of scaling your income through creating your own digital products and services with Six-Figure Blogger.
More Products for Avocadu in the Works
We plan on having six or so new Avocadu products created and finished and on Amazon hopefully before Jan 1st. We’d be wise to get them up before the flood of health and fitness traffic that the new year brings in, but we will see!
Webinars, Ads, and Outreach
If not this month, then the next is when it begins.
What I feel like will be the final stage of reaching a blog’s peak profitability is on the terrifyingly near horizon for us.
Ads, Webinars, and Outreach. – Aka scaling a blog.
I’m not scared of this, but I’m hesitant because I know the tremendous amount of work that will have to be put in to the webinars to succeed at these.
Outreach is not natural for me and the first webinar I did for Avocadu wayyyyyyyyy back when bombed so hard. Okay, so maybe I am scared.
All I know is I’ve danced around this for a while because we wanted our blogs perfectly set before we did it – and maybe because we were avoiding it for as long as possible.
But, now is the time.
Webinars serve to both educate your readers as well help build trust through videos and help to drive sales. This is how you scale profits.
It’s going to be an interesting next couple of months.
MESSAGE TO STRUGGLING BLOGGERS: Below is a lesson what I call the poop phase, the emotional teenager phase, and the golden egg phase.
Newbie Blogging Stages
Our blogging career has had three different phases which I feel represent the system of exponential growth.
The chart above represents our first year of blogging income. Other than the outlier in July (we had a Pinterest pin go MEGAviral and send us TONS of traffic), you can see that we doubled our revenues for the first few months of business and had doubled again by the end of the year.
I feel like in mastering any skill (blogging, cooking, drawing) ends up being a long road that eventually (hopefully) leads to exponential growth – if you stick with it.
The first phase, or the long flat-line, is the poop phase.
This is the phase of learning your skill where you work obnoxiously hard yet have very little results to show for it. In this phase, we were spending every ounce of free time building our blogs, yet not making a single dime for our efforts.
This phase is filled with a lot of lows, anxiety, overwhelming feelings, and confusion.
This is the most challenging phase and one that causes a lot of new bloggers to give up.
It’s also a phase of massive trial and error trying to get more visitors to your site and make some income from your blog.
The next phase is the emotional teenager phase.
This is the phase where you get results and traction. Then, it’s ripped violently from your arms.
You’re like a confused pre-teen. Your emotions are in a constant whirlwind of success and depression.
You have an amazing month, followed by a shit month.
You get a girl’s number only to have her tell her friends she gave it out of sympathy.
It’s an emotionally confusing time as you are still trying to figure yourself out.
During this stage, you are beginning to make some money, but it’s not as consistent as you would like.
But there IS a light at the end of the tunnel…
The final stage what makes it all worth it is the golden egg phase.
This is the stage in which you have developed enough skill that everything you poop out is like a golden egg.
You have enough skill and have been through enough highs and lows that you can kind of do no wrong.
This is the phase we are kind of in at the moment – finally.
The problem that most newbie bloggers face is that they struggle to gain any traction, and when they do, it is often ripped away from them without notice – and they aren’t able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
They never make it out of the first two phases and eventually give up.
If you want to succeed as a blogger you must keep moving forward to get to the golden egg phase.
It’s there. I promise it is. But you’ll only get it once you’ve earned your stripes through a lot of time and hard work invested in your blog.

If you would like to know how we did this and how you can use it to monetize your blog, make sure to check out our course Make Money Blogging for Beginners.
The course is all about helping you start making $500 – $1,000 per month with your new blog through affiliate marketing, free blog traffic, and other strategies.

If you would like to know how we did this, make sure to check out our most advanced blog monetization course, Six Figure Blogger.
Note that this is an ADVANCED course. It does not cover the basics of traffic or writing content. It delves much deeper to cover copywriting, sales funnels, email marketing, and more.
