Blog Income Report May 2017 – $32,172.68 Blogging
This Blog Income Report May 2017 demonstrates how we make money blogging with our health and wellness blog and will hopefully help you get started!
If you have read our income reports before, feel free to skip over this brief introduction. If this is the first income report you have read from us, let us explain the premise.
Lauren (girlfriend and business partner) own the health and wellness blog at Avocadu.com. It is from the successes and failures of this blog that we teach at Create and Go.
We also add our revenues from our health and fitness YouTube Channel, The Health Nerd.
The reason that we do this is that we hope that you will find it a bit more relatable.
We are teaching strategies that work in a completely different niche, and we hope this will make it a little more applicable to your specific niche and blog.
There are a lot of ‘experts’ out there that are making money online by teaching others how to make money online. Basically, blogging about blogging.
While many of these folks are VERY successful and absolutely do know what they are talking about, it makes their strategies a little hard to apply sometimes if you are in a completely different niche.
We hope that the honesty and transparency that we provide through our successes and failures with our health and wellness blog helps you on your blogging journey as well!
Note* If you have not yet started a blog, we have a very in-depth post on How to Start a Successful Blog that will walk you through the process, step-by-step. If you want to jump in without a tutorial, you can get started for just $3-5/month with our subscriber discount at Bluehost.

Proof of Income
*Note* Paypal payments are higher in the screenshot because some other funds from Create and Go are intermingled.
One phrase to describe this month:
Passive income has been achieved.
What we learned this month from our experiments:
Passive Income is Very Real.
We put our hearts and souls into that thing and because we did, Avocadu got a bit neglected this month. Almost nothing was touched or changed except a few articles.
This is exactly why we created our online businesses in the first place. We wanted time freedom to experience life on our terms.
So it’s insanity to me to see it actually come to life!
We made $27,000 from Avocadu ALONE with almost entirely passive. I say almost entirely because we did schedule posts, emails, and Pinterest pins out.
Pretty cool, huh?
We Started a New Company!
While in Peru, Dale (Lauren’s brother and co-owner of The Health Nerd) and I got to chatting. He has some mad videography skills and I know the business of making money online / building large audiences.
And lately, I’ve been seeing a little trend in the travel niche…
- There are of people getting millions of views making cool travel videos of their experiences.
- The people making these travel videos get to travel fo’ free.
- Oftentimes, companies will pay them to be in these videos.
- WHHHHHYYYYYYYYY are we not doing this???????
This seems like an easy choice for us.
On top of getting paid to travel the world, we could make fun videos documenting our experiences AND eventually teach others how to capture their travels better.
Because the truth is that most people suck at taking photos and videos of their journeys. We want to teach people how to capture and make memories! 🙂
So, I’d like to formally introduce you to WANDR – our new Youtube channel.
You can actually see our first video of our trip to Peru here:
If you like it and want to learn how to better capture your trips and experiences, please subscribe to our channel for more videos.
Clickfunnels vs. Teachable…
I brought this up in an earlier income report but I want to go over it again.
Soooooooo, I like Clickfunnels.
In my opinion, they do decent work and have the best sales page editor in existence. I have long talked about using them to build landing pages for your products and did a detailed review on Clickfunnels and video about them.
In the last income report, we discussed the complaints we were having about our membership programs hosted on Clickfunnels.
The problem was that our clients couldn’t access the content in our courses that they paid for. Clickfunnels wouldn’t recognize their email and wouldn’t let them reset their passwords.
This led to a lot of frustrated customers and a LOT of customer service work for us.
And I hate to say it, but Clickfunnels was less than helpful with this process. We wrote into their customer service, and they blamed the problem on OUR CUSTOMERS. They said it was their fault and they were trying to access the program wrong.
It seemed like Lauren knew more about their membership program than the customer service rep did, based on the responses she was getting.
Here’s the deal… You can mess up quite a few things and still be a successful blogger, trust me, we’ve made a lot of blogging mistakes!
But pissing off your customers by them not being able to access the course that they paid for is not one of the things you can screw up.
So here are the changes that we made…
We still use Clickfunnels for everything on Avocadu. They have GREAT landing pages and sales pages. The membership programs work okay for Avocadu, because people aren’t usually logging in multiple times. Most of our clients login, download the eBooks, and don’t need to login again.
If you are looking for somewhere to host your digital products, we recommend looking into both and deciding which one is best for you and your audience.
Experiments we are running in the coming month:
Adding Purchase Confirmations to Our Sales Pages
We’re playing around with a new software called “Proof.”
The whole concept is to showcase people purchasing your products in real time, which adds an extra layer of trust to your sales page.
Some people have claimed that it has actually doubled conversion rates. Now, I don’t think it will have that much of an impact, but let’s do the math…
If Proof led to 5 more sales on Avocadu, then we have made approx. an extra $200 per month. Since the software costs us only $79 per month, the ROI is simple.
Proof starts out at $29/month for lower-trafficked websites.
We will play around with it and let you know how it goes!
Launches on Launches
Lauren and I stay abreast on the trendz. We’re real cool like that… And I have noticed something from MANY of the other six-figure bloggers.
They ALWAYS-be-launching. ABL.
Every month or sometimes a couple times a month, they are talking about some new program with a limited-time reason to buy (aka scarcity).
Often times, they are promoting high-priced affiliate products too (think $2,000+).
Soooooo, here’s our plan… We are going to launch new products once a month to our audience.
I think this is going to drive up our revenue without adding a lot of additional work to our plates. We will keep you posted on the results!
Offering a discount on our course for The Health Nerd
The Health Nerd sells a course called The Science of Fast Weight Loss.
Right now, it sells okay, but I do feel like we should be doing more volume with the size of the channel we have. So, we have decided to offer a price discount to our new subscribers (from $47 to $37) that sign up for our opt-in on The Health Nerd.
This was something that we mulled over for quite a few days because we were actually going to RAISE the price to increase revenues.
Raising the price generally raises the perceived value of the information.
We felt that it would also increase revenues, but it’s tricky business because you have to hope that you won’t actually hurt sales by decreasing the price.
We ultimately decided to focus more on the relationship with our list, and offer the price discount instead.
Side Note: We use ConvertKit for email marketing on all of our businesses!
The theory here is that even more people will buy at the limited-time discount, so our revenues should still increase. We’ll keep you posted.
