Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers – 6 Tips for Making 6 Figures
Hey, blog fam! Let’s chat about affiliate marketing for bloggers today with 6 really important tips to making six figures with affiliate marketing!
Affiliate marketing was one of the big turning points behind turning Avocadu, our health and wellness blog, into a six-figure blog.
Now, between both of our blogs, we do earn six figures from affiliate marketing alone.
Depending on the affiliate program, the commissions can be awesome too.
- Some products we have sold pay up to $115 per unit sold.
- Some products pay you recurring revenue on products sold, so we make extra money on a month-to-month basis.
Taking two separate blogs both to six figures has taught us a LOT about affiliate marketing.
Even the things that most people seem to skip over or miss for whatever reason.
We hope this email helps clear some things up and gives you some valuable tips for making six figures with affiliate marketing.
There are many six-figure bloggers monetizing through affiliate marketing.
Now there are quite a few massive bloggers out there making six figures solely from affiliate marketing. Here is the interesting thing about it:
You won’t be able to find many that report income because affiliate marketing is highly competitive. Sharing your info and secrets will drive up the competition and drive down your profits.
This is why 99% of six-figure affiliate marketers keep their mouths shut.
The few exceptions are people like:
These awesome bloggers are the rare exception, not the rule.
Many six-figure bloggers also use affiliate marketing to supplement their income, not as the sole source.
You will often see popular bloggers promote other related products in their niche as an additional income to their own digital products and services.

If it’s your focus, affiliate products should be high-priced.
This is just the truth.
tYou’ll never make six-figures from the Amazon Associates program. Trust me. We’ve tried…
The bloggers making six figures using affiliate marketing are selling high-priced affiliate products.
- Promoting expensive courses (think $500+ range)
- Marketing expensive equipment (drones, cameras, etc.)
- Reviewing expensive services (hosting, CPM software, etc.)
There is no exception here.
The volume of sales you would have to make at $5 – $20 per sale from a low-priced product to make it to six figures is crazy. You’d need something in the ballpark of 10,000,000+ readers to make that model work.
Or a massive email list of millions of subscribers.
That’s not to say that $5-$20 sales aren’t worth your time. Our first $300-$400/month came from Amazon Associates, and it put our blog in the green.
If you’re looking to make that first couple hundred dollars with your blog, you can check out our article below on getting started with Amazon Associates:
But if you’re reaching for six-figures using ONLY affiliate marketing, you’d better be selling high-priced products.
There is also another factor related to this at play here…
For big affiliate marketing profits, your niche matters.
For instance, we know from our experience with Avocadu that making money in the health and wellness industry is volume-focused.
The traffic the health and wellness niche is a lot higher, but the products people want are usually FAR less expensive.
People are used to paying low prices, so trying to get them to pay for a $500 course would be VERY difficult.
This means that affiliate marketing is not the right path to take Avocadu to six figures.
We’d never make it unless we spent our lives constantly promoting and pitching random products (aka LOTS of webinars).
That’s why, in our niche, affiliate marketing is a nice supplemental income (about an extra $500 – $1000 per month, but the real money lies in creating our own products.
Even so, we still used affiliate marketing in the beginning because…
Affiliate marketing will teach you how to sell.
We made our first real bit of money with Avocadu selling a yoga product via affiliate marketing.
Selling those first few products marked the first time we started making actual income online (the $300/m from Amazon Associates was barely covering blogging expenses).
In fact, our first $20 day, $50 day, and $100 day were all a result of promoting that first product.
Most importantly, it taught us HOW to sell digital products.
So much so that when we launched the Yoga Fat Loss Bible, we made sales right from the get-go.
This is also great because if you’re selling a product that you can improve upon, you can eventually make your own and sell it better.
Even the email giant, ConvertKit, was created from a frustrated blogger trying to find an email marketing service designed specifically for bloggers.
But here’s something you need to be acutely aware of as far as affiliate marketing for bloggers goes:
You don’t own the affiliate product.
This is going to be the risk you take, and some of that risk is impossible to avoid.
For instance, let’s say you make 85% of your income from the sales of ONE affiliate product.
If a company decides to lower their affiliate commissions or make changes to their affiliate program that are NOT in your favor, your income stream can be immediately cut off.
Poof. Gone overnight. Your money tree has been struck by lightning in the night.
It’s just how it goes. You’re always taking that risk when you don’t own the product.
Now, it is incredibly rare for an affiliate program to do this. If you’re both making money and the customers are happy, why stop?
It’s just something that you must be aware of if you are putting all your eggs into that basket.
And finally, one of the best parts of affiliate marketing is…
The sales process is stupidly similar to selling other digital products.
If you can sell an affiliate product, you can sell your own product(s).
That’s because the sales process is always, always, always about the relationship you build with others.
A proper relationship looks something like:
- Establish initial curiosity and intrigue.
- Allow for a follow-up.
- Increase the strength of the relationship.
This is the same no matter what you are selling. But, I will say that 95% of six-figure bloggers make their money selling digital products and services.
Even affiliate marketers end up learning that it works better to own the product than to just promote it.
But here is the most important lesson of all…
You should start out with affiliate marketing to teach you HOW to sell before investing the time and money creating our own product(s).
This is the mistake that we made when our first blog failed and why we structured our blogging courses the way that we did.
Our Make Money Blogging for Beginners Course was designed for new bloggers looking to make their first $1,000/month. We teach bloggers how to get started in affiliate marketing, drive your first bit of traffic, and get started with email marketing.
Only after you have finished this stage should you move on to the stage of creating your own digital products and services, which is what our other course on blog monetization, Six-Figure Blogger, is about.
It’s VERY important for you to take these steps in order and not jump ahead or you’ll only find yourself back at square one again.
