How to Make Blogging Your Full-Time Job (5 Steps)
We are going to show break out how to make blogging your full-time job into just 5 simple steps. There were the 5 steps Lauren and I took to making 103,457.86 blogging our very first year.
Most bloggers, including us, seem to do two things incorrectly when trying to make money online…
- They try to skip steps.
- They overcomplicate the process.
This post will hopefully remedy this situation for you and give you some much needed headspace. We write from the standpoint of what has worked (and not worked) for us with our health and fitness blog at Avocadu.com.
The low points (no traffic, sales pages that don’t convert, unhappy customers, etc.) are where we learned the most. The high points (see below) are what have made EVERYTHING worth it!
We have gotten to use blogging as our tool of escape to quit our jobs, travel the world, and live life on our terms.
And we are here to tell you that you can too.
If you are a blogger or even just thinking about blogging, we hope this page simplifies the journey for you and brings a little clarity as to what your next best steps are.
How to Make Blogging Your Full-Time Job (5 Steps)
Step #1. Start your blog or website.
It seems obvious, but you’d be surprised at how any people simply fail to launch.
We also have free 7-day eCourse on blogging for those of you who have not started yet and need some additional guidance.

Once you have started, the next step is to…
Step #2. Launch your blog.
Got a blog? Awesome! The next step is pretty simple… LAUNCH. These were the exact next steps that we took, and they centered around 3 main points.
Get your design right.
While this can be a frustrating part in starting any new blog or venture, you want your website to look good. Don’t overcomplicate this too much. Our blog looked like crap and still made a ton of money.
WordPress comes with a few free themes, and these are great to get started and get the hang of things. The downside is that you won’t be able to customize much in the way of colors, fonts, etc.
A beginner-friendly theme that is VERY customizable and that we started with on all of our blogs is X-Theme. It does cost $60, but it was worth it to remove all of the headaches for us.
If interested in some basic design pointers, I did some free blog reviews awhile back on Youtube that you can check out:

Create your first 5 posts.
Your first 5 posts should not be anything the fret over. It’s pretty easy when you use our little formula:
Set up email collection.
The money is in the email list, my friends, and you should start out with a plan to collect emails ASAP. There are very few blogs that can be successful without it, and those that are exemplify the exception and not the rule!
Go ahead and grab a great email provider. Here are the two best places to start:
- Mailchimp – It’s free to start but has limited features. The other downside to starting out with free service is that you will likely have to transfer your emails to a more robust system later on.
- Convertkit – What we personally use and recommend on our 6-figure blog. It costs money to start, but it is by far the best solution I have used (and I have used everything!).
In order to collect emails, you of course need traffic, which brings us to our next step…
Step #3. Get Visitors to Your Content
It took us a long time to figure out how to get traffic to our blog, and the process included lots of failed experiments with Facebook ad traffic and Google SEO. That being said, we now get over 300,000+ monthly visitors to our blog and website, and that is all ORGANIC, FREE traffic. No paid ads. 😉
It is pretty much all from Pinterest, but we are dabbling in Youtube right now.

The above resources are free, but if you are really ready to dive and and drive over 100,000+ new visitors, customers, subscribers, and fans to your blog or website, you should check out our full eCourse, Pinterest Organic Traffic Avalanche.
It contains all of our inside knowledge as to how exactly we drive massive traffic to our blogs and businesses every day! It also goes over how to use Pinterest specifically to collect emails as well.
Satisfied with the current amount of visitors you want to your website? This next step is very important, and it’s the one that we skipped the first time around…
Step #4. Affiliate Marketing
Lauren and I tried skipping to step 5, and the result was the failure of our first health and fitness blog. With our second health and fitness blog, Avocadu, we made our first $1,000/m online selling affiliate products before making any profit from our own products.
It’s quite easy to overlook this step or think that you can or should skip it, but we cannot stress the importance of this step enough.
It taught us SO much about online marketing, including how to write emails, improve our sales messages, and communicate with our readers.
Those first affiliate sales changed our lives, taught us how to sell online, and helped us grow as bloggers and online entrepreneurs.
Here is one of our articles about how to get started with Amazon (where we made our first $500/month):
Here are the best affiliate websites to get started with:
Clickbank – Complete marketplace with all sorts of products to promote and to choose from.
Amazon Associates – Really where every new blogger should start. Read the article above.
Shareasale – There are TONS of companies and products available to those registered at shareasale. Even as a new blogger, you will be able to promote lots of different things.
Affiliate Training Course Coming Soon…
We are working on a program that will teach you how to make your first $1,000/month affiliate passive income and beyond without ever feeling slimy or weird about it.
Don’t underestimate the power of affiliate income. Sure, you start out small at $500-$1,000/month, but this is generally enough to make your blog PROFITABLE! You should first aim to cover all of your blogging expenses.
Affiliate marketing also gives you the potential to make thousands of dollars every month, depending on what you are selling.
Look out for our course in the next couple of months for more information!
Step #5. Create Your Own Information Products (and Beyond)
Once we starting making some consistent affiliate sales and were making over $1,000 a month with them, we decided that it was time to produce our own products!
This was where the real income started to fall in, because you can set your own prices and margins.
We created two main programs for our health and fitness blog, Avocadu:
These programs have been the core of our income over the last year.
It was only once we had steps #1-4 down that we decided to produce our own information products. Information products are amazing, because:
- There is hardly any overhead (no shipping or handling).
- People love them when they are made right!
We will also be launching an eCourse soon on how to make your own information products, including eBooks and eCourses.
In this course, we will explain exactly how to create and design your very own eBooks and eCourses and sell them to the world. It’s going to be awesome! 🙂
- Start your blog or website.
- Get traffic.
- Monetize with affiliate products.
- Sell your own information products.
Now get to it!
